Institute meets demand for skills

IF you have the skills - you'll get that job.

This is the motto of Sarina Russo's training arm, Sarina Russo Institute - Skills for Industry.

The Institute determines skills required by local business and then develops relevant jobs-based courses, Karen Edden, Mt Gravatt office manager, said.

Ms Edden said in a competitive market a qualification in a local skills shortage area was a huge advantage for a job seeker.

"A good example is our white-carded traffic management certificate," she said.

"With all of the road construction going on there is a huge demand for stop and go workers."

Ms Edden said there had also been a big demand for entry level qualifications (Cert II level) in retail, hospitality, business administration, financial services and customer contact (call centres).

Higher level certificate courses were also available to job seekers, she said.

"A huge demographic cross-section of job seekers are taking the opportunity to improve their skills, including recent school leavers, redundant workers, mothers wanting to return to the workforce, the mature aged and the long-term unemployed,"

Ms Edden said.

The Institute's offices are staffed by expert employment consultants who utilise job search techniques, employer marketing, mentoring and post placement support to upskill the candidate, get the candidate a job and help the candidate stay in that job.

Sarina Russo Institute - Skills for Industry also provides a 60-hour Job Search Training program available to employers, people seeking employment and those looking for a career change.

"The program is job focused and provides job seekers with a range of courses, each specifically designed to suit their needs and help them gain employment."
